Transport: Women-only taxis in Dublin.
Thursday, February 28th 2008 www.angelcabs.ieAs of 1 March, a new Dublin taxi company staffed exclusively by women drivers will offer a female-friendly service for women passengers who feel safer and more comfortable with a driver of their own sex. Angel Cabs, the brainchild of Cork businessman Gerard McCarthy, will operate from six contact numbers in various zones of the city and will have no central office, with customers being put directly through to the nearest driver. While the service is open to customers of both sexes, Angel Cabs’ emphasizes that its main priority is to improve the lot of women drivers and passengers. This is Ireland’s first all-women taxi company, although similar enterprises are already operating in the United Kingdom and Europe.
